Concerns emerge in Fukushima over Reconstruction Agency's expiration

Several heavy machinery units are seen at a site in Namie, Fukushima Prefecture, conducting earthwork to build a research facility.The Fukushima Institute for Research, Education and Innovation (F-REI) is scheduled to be completed in fiscal 2030, with an aim to become a “world-renowned central institute for creative reconstruction.”The institute, to be constructed in a city hit by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown, is expected to bring various benefits, including offering cutting-edge research in fields such as nuclear reactor decommissioning and energy, and encouraging related companies to move into the area.
