The government has unveiled its draft guidelines for fee hikes for foreign nationals applying to change or renew their status of residence, as well as for those seeking permanent residency, from Oct. 1.In a news briefing Thursday, Immigration Service Agency (ISA) officials outlined to reporters the new fee structure, which follows the May enactment of an amended immigration law that raised the statutory ceiling on fees for residence permits.Currently, foreign nationals pay ¥6,000 ($37) when applying in person to change their status of residence or renew their period of stay, while the fee for permanent residence permission is ¥10,000.
